One night, after just getting off work at Toys R Us, I went over to Adrianne's mom's apartment. There I found Karin and Adrianne piss drunk (surprise surprise!) from a space bag to the dome. For a few minutes nothing important was said. The first coherent thing that came out of Karin's mouth was "Jay, you've gotta come with us."

And then they walked down the stairs into the community basement/laundry room. I figured they wanted to show me a dead bug, a pool of blood or urine, or something else. (they were always doing crazy shit like that, especially when they were drunk.) Then she dropped the bomb on me.

"Jay, me and Adrianne are leaving St.Louis and we're going to hitch hike to California, and we want you to come with us. So Fucking come with us!"

My first instinct was to say no. It was such a fucked up idea. Pack up the shit you need, say "fuck it", and just go. Just leave everything and everyone you know behind. The idea scared the shit out of me. I said "I can't do that. What about my job, my school, my mom? Fuck! I can't do this. I can't" And then I went and said something hella stupid. I said, "ok, I'll go if at the end of the semester I lose my schalorship."
